Speaker Bio

Dr. Michael Henson is a Professor of Chemical Engineering and faculty member in the Institute of Applied Life Sciences at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA. He also serves as a Co-director of the Institute for Massachusetts Biofuels Research. Dr. Henson’s research focuses on multiscale modeling and analysis of complex biological systems with emphasis on microbial biofilm communities and circadian timekeeping. His research has produced over 110 referred journal publications and 60 invited presentations and seminars. Among his accomplishments are the NSF Career Award, the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship and the UMass College of Engineering Outstanding Senior Faculty Award. He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the open access journal Processes, Associate Editor for IET Systems Biology and IEEE Life Science Letters, and President of the educational organization Computer Aids for Chemical Engineering (CACHE).
