Launching NIH's UNITE initiative to end structural racism

I invite you to respond to this Request for Information, Deadline: 11:59 pm (local time) on Friday, April 23, 2021This RFI will inform our efforts to improve and strengthen racial equity, diversity, and inclusion across all facets of the biomedical research enterprise, both within NIH and at the institutions NIH funds. It will also inform efforts to expand research to eliminate or lessen health disparities and inequities. Your perspective from your position in IMAG and the MSM will be extremely valuable. Importantly, this effort applies to all job positions, not just scientific positions. If you have questions about the RFI, please direct them to UNITEInitiative@nih.gov.

Please share this information with your networks – as we would like to hear from as many individuals and organizations as possible on this important effort.

Virtual Town Hall:

NIH intends to end structural racism in our mission areas through the newly launched UNITE initiative. This will include broad efforts to achieve racial equity at NIH and within the larger biomedical research enterprise. I, along with members from my leadership team, would like to share more information about this important new initiative and how it works within the context of NIH’s agency-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion work. I invite you to join us for our first Virtual Town Hall on Achieving Racial Equity at NIH on Friday, April 30, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. ET. We will discuss facets of racism, policies, and processes to report incidents of discrimination, and how the UNITE initiative and agency-wide racial equity efforts are working to create a more equitable and inclusive work environment for all staff. We also will respond to frequently asked questions submitted in advance. I encourage you to review the Ending Structural Racism webpage and submit your questions to UNITEInitiative@nih.gov by close of business on Friday, April 23, 2021.
