Weekly APS Biological Physics & Physical Biology Seminar

APS Biological Physics & Physical Biology (BP/PB) seminars are held most Fridays. Talks begin at 8 am pacific/9 am mountain/10 am central/11am eastern in the US, which is 4 pm in the UK/5 pm in central Europe/9:30 pm in India. The second talk starts at half past the hour.

The goal of the series is to highlight interesting current research in biophysics, broadly defined.

NIH's Precision Nutrition: Research Gaps and Opportunities Workshop

Background

The science of precision nutrition is a holistic approach to developing comprehensive and dynamic nutrition recommendations relevant to both individual and population health. It is a framework in research and practice that considers multiple, synergistic levels of influence: dietary habits, genetic background, health status, microbiome, metabolism, food environment, physical activity, socioeconomics, psychosocial characteristics, and environmental exposures.

Results From Computational Model Show Shortening COVID-19 Infectious Period Could Prevent Millions of Cases

Finding medications or vaccines that may decrease the infectious period of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) could potentially reduce transmission in the broader population. We developed a computational model of the U.S. simulating the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and the potential clinical and economic impact of reducing the infectious period duration.
