NIH DATA Scholars Program Now Accepting Applications

The Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) NIH Data and Technology Advancement (DATA) National Service Scholar Program (DATA Scholars) is now accepting applications for our 2021 cohort. This is an excellent opportunity for mid-career data and computer scientists and engineers to tackle challenging biomedical data problems with the potential for substantial public health impact. Scholars engage with NIH experts, top researchers and industry partners.

Using digital twins in viral infection

Submitted by Jim Sluka on

SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the need for computational models ranging from viral to within host to the population scales. The 2021 pandemic saw the rapid re-purposing of epidemiological computer models originally developed for other pandemics. This re-purposing helped policy-makers and health care professionals plan their responses. However, it is not currently possible to predict the course of disease for individual patients.“Digital twins” are software models of the function of complex machines.
