Active learning
SARS-CoV-2 has highlighted the need for computational models ranging from viral to within host to the population scales. The 2021 pandemic saw the rapid re-purposing of epidemiological computer models originally developed for other pandemics. This re-purposing helped policy-makers and health care professionals plan their responses. However, it is not currently possible to predict the course of disease for individual patients.“Digital twins” are software models of the function of complex machines.
